HOW TO WATCH THE MET GALA
It’s not easy. The broadcast starts at 6 p.m. Eastern on Vogue.com. Vogue is the only publication showing it. Vogue’s digital sites, like YouTube and TikTok, will also have the video.
A huge number of extra media will be available on the spot. You can watch livestreams on X, TikTok, Instagram, and Peacock. At 6 p.m., you can see it all on E!
They will be live outside of the Mark Hotel, where a lot of famous people get ready before going to The Metropolitan Museum of Art to climb the stairs.
WHAT PURPOSE DOES THE MET GALA 2024 SERVE?
Most definitely, it’s a social event with dinner and drinks for about 400 invited people. It also raises a lot of money for the Met’s Costume Institute, which is the only area at the museum that can run itself. The previous year’s gala raised about $22 million. Anna Wintour, who is a trustee at the Met and changed the name of a part of the school, is in charge of the whole thing. Since phones aren’t allowed, it adds to the attraction.
WHAT IS THE THEME OF THIS YEAR’S MET GALA?
When the museum’s spring show comes around, there is a dress code that everyone has to follow. Some guests do what Wintour asks, but not all of them do. This year’s theme is “The Garden of Time,” which comes from J.G. Ballard’s short story of the same name from 1962. There is a lot of uncertainty in the fashion world right now because last year’s theme was very clear: everything Karl Lagerfeld. At this point, a lot of flowers are expected. It’s likely that vintage will also be important.
WHAT IS THIS YEAR’S MUSEUM EXHIBIT?
The name of the publication is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” This doesn’t apply to fairy stories or Disney heroines, though. It has 250 pieces from The Costume Institute’s fixed collection. Some of them are so fragile that they are rarely shown to the public and have to be kept safe behind glass. The organizers wanted to make everyone feel something, even their sense of smell. They hired a person to “smell artist.” There is also a clothing that gets bigger. Respecting the natural surroundings is a part of the idea. The show can be seen by anyone from Friday to September Tuesday.
WHO CO-CHAIRS THE MET GALA 2024 ARE?
It’s a big deal to be asked by Wintour to co-chair. This year’s group includes Chris Hemsworth, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, and Bad Bunny. Hemsworth is going to his very first Met Gala 2024. Honorary chairs are Shou Chew, chief executive officer of TikTok, and Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Loewe. Companies also fund exhibitions and galas.
WHO WILL BE PROMOTING THE MET GALA 2024?
Though attendance is kept very private, Rihanna has said that she will be there. A$AP Rocky, her friend, will most likely accompany her as well. With their significant others hosting, Ben Affleck and Tom Holland are also likely to be there. Lily Gladstone has indicated she will be there. Ayo Edebiri looks like someone we should see. It looks like both Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce won’t be there. Dua Lipa is going.
